Dooce is Heather Armstrong.

Here she describes seasonal affective disorder (SAD) really well:

Live journal seems to be suffering petit mal seizures of late.
So frustrating.

I have so little patience for technology. It's supposed to just WORK damnit!

::sigh::

Mind Your Own
Oh, the bile. This man can hardly breathe, the hate is so hard:

Oh Canada; you once again help prove my theory that women are batshit psycho hose beasts. Well, at least the ones that don’t take their husband’s last name and either just greedily keep their own or put in the ever pretentious hyphen.

Recently, this nutjob called Kathy Witterick, and her “husband” David Stocker had a child whom they called Storm. Yes, Storm, just like the X-Man.

....

This whole deal, to the parents (and parents, I mean mom. Nobody with a man card would fall for this bullshit) is that they’re trying to liberate their children from the constraints of gender.

Compare and contrast to this individual:

If we strip marriage of the asymmetry of power, as we must if we allow men to marry men and women to marry women, then we also strip away the man and wife, dominant and submissive, owner and owned, master and servant relationship that characterizes the conservative view of marriage. This is what they want to preserve, and this is what they are talking about when people like Gingrich echo those tired phrases about “Judeo-Christian values” and complain that their “civilization is under attack”. And it is, when we challenge their right to treat one partner, so-called, as chattel.

And once you look at it that way, you see no abuse of their values when Gingrich goes tomcatting around—he’s simply asserting his traditional privilege as the Man.

Dropped LJGenie from my list.

Got tired of people looking for homework solutions and validations/enabling of plagiaristic behavior.

One less thing in my life to stress about.

More difficult - G. Rouault
“Out of the great progress of this country, out of our great advances in achieving a better life for all, out of our rise to world leadership, the Republican leaders have learned nothing. Confronted by the great record of this country, and the tremendous promise of its future, all they do is croak, ‘socialism.’”

- Harry S. Truman

From the same article:

"Yet to displace [Democratic control of Congress] with a Republican regime embracing a philosophy that lacks political integrity or intellectual honesty would prove equally disastrous to this nation. The nation sorely needs a Republican victory. But I don’t want to see the Republican Party ride to political victory on the Four Horsemen of Calumny — Fear, Ignorance, Bigotry, and Smear.
I doubt if the Republican Party could — simply because I don’t believe the American people will uphold any political party that puts political exploitation above national interest."

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that."

- MLK Jr.

“But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and persecute you…”

In a footnote of my personal journey, I find it interesting that just Friday I picked up Bernard Lewis' book 'From Babylon to Dragomans: Interpreting the Middle East' and read this essay: A Taxonomy of Group Hatred.

Recommended reading. I think the entire essay in provided in the link.

This book and another, 'Team of Rivals' by Doris Kearns Goodwin, are living on my nightstand as I work my way through them intermittently.

I may never understand our species, but I keep trying.

Bureau of Joy
A book.

Crikey.

I want to read a book that tells the whole story. I want the book that starts with the wandering tribe that worshiped the god that thundered on the mountain, documents the coming of the disputed messiah, tells of the man named Mohammad - whom they called prophet, relates the interaction of all these peoples and the non-mono-theists that they were surrounded by.

I want the book that tells of hopeful travelers making new starts on foreign soils and the bloody wars that followed their successes.

I want that book.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of peace
Count many a year of strife well lost,
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.
